Two problems with 7264.x64 . . .

I'm having two problems with Win.7.7264.x64 that I have not had before:

• Upon awakening from sleep, I have no mouse until I unplug it and plug it in again. (I've tried 3 different mice: my MX518, an MX310 and a Microsoft D58-00041) Then it works normally. (Applies to USB-connected mice, only - no problem when connected to PS/2 mouse port.)
• Also, my connection to my router gets wonky and rapidly quits, meaning that I have to keep trying again and again to get web pages to load because the request keeps timing out. And, after several attempts, the time out becomes permanent. This only happens after the system has awakened from sleep. Logging out and then logging in again doesn't work. Only rebooting restores normal operation.

When I first installed 7264, I upgraded from 7232. I figured my problems might stem from having upgraded; so, I bit the bullet and have now done a clean install. Same symptoms. Everything performs perfectly UNTIL the system is allowed to sleep. Upon awakening, no mouse (until I unplug & re-plug or reboot) and wonky router connection (until I reboot). Neither of these symptoms have ever occurred before.

One other note: other USB devices appear to be unaffected. My Epson & Nikon scanners, my USB CF flash card reader and my several USB flash keys all seem to work perfectly.

I'd check your bios sleep settings... it may be your motherboard is not properly re-initializing all of the USB slots after one of the "S" states... same goes for the network card. I've had something similar on my motherboard but it went away by itself. What I was left with, though, is a USB keyboard which won't initialize until windows loads (no matter what I do), USB ports in general acting strange on occasion and a shaky network interface (which in 7264 won't even allow me to go on the internet even though the internet-bearing network is recognized and seemingly working properly).

The thing is that mobo bios settings are unchanged from the previous Win.7 installs (and there have been a lot of them!). I had no problem at all with Win.7.7229.x64 or Win.7.7232.x64 and the system going to sleep. The only settings I've changed from the defaults are that I set screen-saver after 5 minutes, monitor-standby after 15 minutes and HDD spin-down & system sleep after 30 minutes. Hibernation is DISabled. I've used these same timings for every install since build 7000.

BTW, the mouse problem is independent of any specific USB port. I've tried several. And the scanners work without problems in the same USB ports where the mice have failed to be re-initialized after sleep.

I'm baffled.

There seems to be a problem with the chipset driver for intel chipsets (3, 5 and 5 series) when coming out of wake on 7264 x64 (no problems of this sort on previous builds). For me, it initially manifested itself as BSOD if media center was active. I then noticed that my USB printer had problems as well.

I was able to get around it by disabling AHCI. I will try running the earlier vista chipset drivers tommorrow (following the suggestion of usasma).

Go to Device Manager. Check properties of each offending device. You are looking for Power Management. UNcheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

On my Asus P5B Deluxe, it is necessary to disable legacy USB support in BIOS to prevent certain Sleep related issues. Fortunately, I do not attach any legacy USB devices.

Okay, but doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of the system going to sleep? I had set the bios to allow the keyboard to awaken the computer. That worked in the past. The keyboard (PS/2 connection) still does. USB ports and the network adapters were allowed to be put to sleep to save power. Worked in the past. Doesn't now -- at least with the mouse -- the scanners work perfectly.

The change is made. USB and network ports will not be put to sleep. I'll post back as to the the result when the system next sleeps (which may be sometime this afternoon late as I'm busy today working.

Also, what constitutes a "legacy" USB device? It's ENabled in my bios. And has been with past installs without apparent problems. (I've got Gigabyte's GA-EX58-UD5.)

i have the same motherboard, with neither of those problems

GO to your manufactures website and get all the latest drivers THEY have not microsoft has for your motherboard.

If there are no windows 7 drivers you can try the x64 Vista drivers.

for chipset and AHCI drivers, i'm just using the ones built into win7 for now
