Thank you, for the tip. I 'll try this. I still think my problem is with my registry. I do not see a root.dir in my registry.

Does anybody know how to reset your regestry? I noticed my regestry does not have a root dir.

    scroll down to option two
    Registry - Backup and Restore

It still looks like the drive is suffering from a physical issue though, I'm not sure this is going to really help with that problem.

Hi Mrcando and welcome to the Forum. You have mentioned 4 times in you post that you think your problem is related to your Registry. Firstly why do you think it is a Registry problem and also what do you mean when you say that your Registry does not have a ROOt.DIR??? Could you post a screen shot of what you mean?

I could be wrong but I suspect that you may have a failed CD/DVD drive. The fact that it will not open when you press the open button on the front but will open with a paperclip in the hole leads me to think hardware failure.

press the printscreen button on your keyboard while the window in question is open.
Go into accessories in the start menu and open paint.
Click the paste button, save the file and upload it using the attachment feature here.

If you need better instructions for posting the file here, there is a tutorial for that

ATICCCom64, autorun, ccc(2), ccc, handler(2),handler, handsafe(2),handsafe, regedit, setup.inx, wow...these are the files listed in my regedit program. I talked to a friend yesterday who has windows 7 also. She told me the first item in her program was root.dir.

Post a screen shot using the Snip tool or Print Screen key on the keyboard of what you want us to see.

Follow the tutorial here as Maguscreed posted before.

Do not mess with the Registry unless you know exactly what you are doing, or working from steps which are confirmed to work by experts.

You need a CD/DVD combo drive, if the one you have does not work when cables are replaced. You can move one from another machine to do the install, or install from a flash stick if desired: USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create - Windows 7 Forums.URL
