need help please

my computer does not see my cd/dvd drive. It is there, but when I press it, it does not respond. I think it has something to do with my registry. My registry does not have a root.dir. If there is a way to reset registry, please advise. Thanks....

It sounds like the drive may be dying, it may just be jammed though.

yesI did the paper clip trick, I put the windows 7 64 bit cd in and tried to reboot and nothing happened. I went to my bios and tried to reboot that way,but it told me it could not see the cd drive.

I would pull the cable on the cd drive and plug it back in and reboot.
Just to see if there was a bad connection otherwise you are off to the store to get a new cd drive.

I thought that too, but I was confussed because I could hear the cd rom spin on reboot and the light was on. That is why I thought it could be something in my registry.

I have 2 of them. Not very expensive.
When I do my 3 month computer cleaning the cd driver gets the heads cleaned.
Just a disk that is suppose to clean the head.
