A year ago i bought a HP mini 110 for a spare computer bc i travel all over. Well last week my old computer crashed and it was old so i decided to use my HP mini I turn it on and it acts like it is starting to boot windows then it says "setup preparing your computer for first time use" and after bought 20secs a windows box comes up and says "Windows could not complete the installation to install windows on this computer restart the installation" I did a little research and it said to do a hard drive test and that passed. I am not sure what to do and it doesnt have a cd-rom drive so i cant wait buy windows 7 and reinstall it. It has windows starter on it. If someone could please help me and get this computer working. Microsoft requires that every Windows PC sold have a way of restoring the OS.

For your system, it's a restore partition. Repeatedly press the escape key while the machine is starting up, and it should bring up a screen with the restore option. Select it using the arrow keys.

Warning: i believe that will restroe the machine to the state it was in when it left the factory. Anything you've added will be lost.

I think it is not ESC, on HPs, it is normally F11 you have to keep tapping to get into the reinstallation wizard.

First boot into the F8 Advanced Boot Tools which was seen on the selection menu you described.

Choose Repair My Computer, accept any offered Repair. If Win7 won't start, boot back in again to Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

If this fails, you can copy out your data using the Repair CD with this method: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

I would also try running Startup Repair from the Repair CD you make since it can work better when not dependent upon the OS's own files. System Repair Disc - Create - Windows 7 Forums

Next follow these steps to factory Recover: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...WithoutWindows

If this fails, you can order factory recovery disks here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...name=c00810334

Or find a Win7 installation DVD for your licensed version to clean reinstall following these steps: Reinstalling Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums
