    Wordpad help needed please

Wordpad is frustrating me to no end. I have two problems.

    Issue #1
I am typing out lyrics. Above each line are the chords. The lyric lines come out fine, however the lines with the chords are a problem. I have to space over to the appropriate spot and type the chord i.e.:

    Am Em
    This forum looks very helpful

Everything looks fine so I save the document. When I open it again the chords have shifted either forward or backwards i.e.:

    Am Em
    This forum looks very helpful

I can not figure out why this happens when it was correct when I saved the file. I realize the program probably works on proportional spacing but that doesn't account for why it rearranges text after it has been saved.

    Issue #2

Getting the file typed correctly, I went to print it out. All the text is in the correct places on the screen but prints incorrectly as in the second example above, shifted text.

I am completely baffled by this and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Replying to my own post here. I see that the examples I typed suffer from the same issue here, so I will spell it out.

In the first example the Am was over the 'f' in the word 'forum' and the Em was over the 'h' in the word 'helpful'. In the second example the text had shifted forward: the Am was now over the 'm' in 'forum' and the Em was over the 'f' in 'helpful'.

Hope this is not too confusing.

WordPad is trying to be helpful. It is detecting multiple instances of spaces and assuming they are accidental typos, replacing them with a single space.

Something like "Lyricist" is designed to do what you want

Using notepad and a monospaced font like courier or consolas

should allow you to print with multiple spaces lining up for the chords over the correct word.

fafhrd, I tried using Notepad and it seems to work although I don't like the fact that text cannot be coloured as it makes the chords stand out better. Thank your for your response, WordPad was making me crazy.

Thanks Mike, I am going to download that program and give it a try. I just want my text to stay where I typed it, you know. Seems like a pretty basic expectation from a word processing program right!
