    Taskbar icons

A few weeks ago I managed to change the shape of icons to show larger rectangles when the program was running. This is excellent and very helpful when shutting down windows as it shows which programs are still running. I wish to set it up for a friend but cannot remember how I achieved this.
    Can anyone help please?

if you right click on the task bar and click "properties", there is an option for Use Small Icons. if this is checked, uncheck it and hit apply. that increases the size of the taskbar icon...

is that you are referring to?

    No, Sorry.

I am attaching a screendump which shows my taskbarTaskbar icons-desktop-icons.jpg with three "open" programs in top row (Sticky Notes:Chrome and Excel)

    Hope this helps

Wouldn't that be the setting in the taskbar properties that asks whether or not to combine taskbar buttons?

By selecting "never combine",the regular icons would still be the same, but running programs would use a regular rectangle bar.

Although, i'm not sure how you got the running ones in between all the others.

    Hi MWRed
Many thanks for the reply which is the correct answer although I am still not sure about the logic behind using the "Never Combine" option.
At least I now know how to create the taskbar I am happy with.
