Is there anything you can do in terms of removing services that run at startup, and uncoupling some of the USB devices that you have, for instance.
The fewer processes running, the less chance of slowdowns and competition for resources.
Some vendors' device drivers and device management software is unnecessary - the plain MS generic drivers work just as well (in some cases better, and leaner).
Device manager can show you how many unused drivers are available if you select show hidden devices, and of course if any devices have problems.
