    How are you accessing the format command?

    Are you simply finding the drive in Windows Explorer, right clicking its drive letter, and choosing format?

    Is this a brand new drive?

    If not, what is currently on it---just personal data of some type?

    This is a Windows 7 forum, but I believe using MiniTool Partition Wizard will help with the problem.

    Download from the following;

    Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.

    They have video tutorials that will assist you with instructions on how to format. See the following link;

    How to Format Partition with partition magic? Partition Wizard Format Partition Video Help.

    Can I ask why you are doing a full format? A quick format would be faster....
