Hey BlueMonster & welcome to the Seven Forums.
I've seen you write about 3 times that you are sticking with RC 7100 because it's on a DVD.
I have every major build burned to a DVD & that's easily done as it's an ISO image just like the MS download is / was.

When your start menu items dissapear (this was fixed in later builds) just rightclick on it, then click properties, then OK & they will magically reappear again.

If you haven't figured this out already if you download & run the DXWebinstaller it will add all the versions of DX to the OS so that ALL your games are compatible!
Yea there's an old game I run (Return to Castle Wolfenstein) that W7 runs perfectly & PB works with it as well!

Normally when you just go out to find a torrent & download it you are taking a chance, but not on this forum! These are checked & verified to be Clean & good by checking them against hash checksums so there is no chance of them being altered without these changing.

But as the other members have told you, W7U RC 7100 has a lot of bugs that say build 7264 doesn't have at all.
So for me going through the trouble of getting this build was worth it.
But considering how close we are now to the final public release of Windows 7 I'd just wait on that. :)

Hi Monster and welcome to the forum.
You said in your first post that you were having difficulty with Firefox.
I'm running 7232x64 and the old and new versions run fine. I was on RC1 and have been on several builds and FF is all I've used right through and it works great.
Also I'm using a GTX 260 with the latest Nvidia drivers (186.18 I think) and it runs like a rocket.
There is a thread about graphics cards on the forum and you can get a link to Nvidia forceware downloads.
Any help you need there are loads of helpful people on this forum.

    Cheers, John
Thanks Again Guys! (John and all)

Ok just to make things clear here, I always run the latest version driver for all my Hardware, Especially my GFX card, and I think you folks are corret, my Buid 7100 is the issue, if you can call a Beta OS an Issue, I have a tad bit of trouble mixing the two words in the same sentence.

So what I need to do, according to you guys which I trust, I trust everyone until they give me reason not to BTW.

Is:: Format mt V7100 and Download the latest Build form MS, and if this is what I am to do, which Build number Exactly is the latest Greatest? Also, can I just upgrade my Build, yeah, I know that's the lazy mans way, but I;m talking about being honest here, I'm a bit lazy when it comes to Formatting and avoid it if at all possible, which is not to say I won't follow advise, I can and will, I can and will admit when I'm wrong as well.

    Happens very rarely though, LOL!!

So tell me what the Best way to go about upgrading the the latest Beta Version, and who the Hell got to decide a Beta can now be called "a Release Candidate" Marketing ploy at it's finest, Good 'ol American values hard at work here!!

So Do Tell what I might or should go about upping my Geek status? He, Heeeee!! Shawn always told me I'm not Geeky enough, Hell I've been building my own RIGs for ten Years, and I do it for the whole family when they ask, getting the wife to let folks touch there PC, I hear that a lot at all the Forums I belong to, LOL.

Most Wives it appears are pretty Damn Smart. I've had a couple myself. But they always get between me and the things I want to do.

Oh and that thing about Shawn, I made that up, just in case he reads this. He might have an Aneurysm, OMG!! Plus I just woke uop so, my eyes need to be broken in, you know the drill. Eye Drops, if you use a PC a lot like I do, use Eye Drops, I don't care if you may think your eyes are Ducky, they need to me Moist at all times, and starring at a Monitor 23/7 dries them out like crazy, you may not be aware of this, so if that's the case, you are now. (reaches for eye drops, heads to kitchen for more Java!!) Brin is still coming out of Stand-By MODE.....

Oh and furthermore and BYW, you may notice in my SIG I'm running a GTX 275 FTW GFX card. Those cards are Bad to the Bone, my next build will be (maybe LOL) SLI with two of them, but then again, DX11 is on the way, and my cards are DX10, I have a couple I use frequently, my main car, the FTW Edition GTX 275, and my Back up for it, my 88800GTS640, I had a GTX260 card but gave it to my best bud over at my home group. He's SLI'ing it, with his, as he has a GTX 260 as well. Long Story. He's got a Huge Folding Farm, for an at home Folder. Myself I do my part by donating Hardware to Folders whom are serious about it. My Specs in Detail are filled out now for my RIG I run 24/7, BIG BLUE. Or BlueMonster XL.(TM).

I also have a Couple older ATI cards, but have been with EvGa and NV for the most part.

    Ok I lost myself.

How to Upgrade to Latest Beta version of WIN7, can I upgrade my current install or do I have to start from Scratch again.

    Blue

LOL, you are one funny dude!

Yea, you can upgrade from 7100 to whatever build you want to run.
BUT, if you upgrade from 7100 it WILL bring some of the bugs & gliches with it from that build!
(I know this from testing & upgrading from build to build & from upgrading directly from 7100 to 7260)

Because you are "New" to this & Windows 7 I would recommend (for you) these 2 builds & you pick which one has the most SEEDERS as this will give you the fastest download speeds.

    First choice is W7U RTM 7260 & NOT 7264.
Why? Because 7264 is tricky to activate as it doesn't use RC keys & re-arming is a PITA!

With build 7260 it still excepts the RC keys no problem & activates to be good till March 1st 2010.

Second choice: W7U OEM 7229. Same thing with the RC key still working & activating.

Use HashCalc to verify the hash checksums of the ISO image BEFORE installing it!
    Hash checksums of builds...
    https://www.sevenforums.com/general-d...h-numbers.html

To Upgrade from 7100, extract the ISO image (of the build you are upgrading to) to whereever & rightclick the setup.exe then click properties, then compatibility tab, then choose Vista SP2 & check the box Run as Admin.
Now from within the Windows OS click the setup.exe & let it do it's thing. It will reboot serveral times during the process & will take 30-45 mins depending on your system's speed.

    That's for starters...
Now to get the builds...use a Torrent Client such as
BitTorrent (what I use) or uTorrent to download it & configure your ISP to be Static, then open the port your torrent client is using. I do this on my router as it's the easiest way to do it.

I'll PM you the links to the builds...OK
Last question, what OS version do you want?
    x86 or x64? I have both but on build 7260 there's only x86.

    Hello BM,

Just further to what MUFF1N is saying- I upgraded for my last 4 W7 installs and it works really well (but in small steps rather than 7100 to 7260)
This week I got a new HDD and decided to use that as my main system disk.
    Previously I was running 7264 x64 and it's lovely.
However, as mentioned above, it won't activate with the RC activation codes.
Therefore you would have to rearm it every 30 days which is a pain.
    Consequently I went back to 7232 x64.
I'd been on that before and did not notice any differences anyway and it'll work with the RC keys.
Upgrading takes about 70 minutes whereas a clean install took me less than 20 minutes last night.
Because I was using a new hard disk I had to do a clean install but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend upgrades with W7.
I note that you're pretty much a x64 man and I am too. I was a bit suspicious of 7232 as it is a hybrid custom build. An ISO front end (7229) stuck on a VHD leak (7232)
However it was made by one of our most trusted members, SoLoR, so I tried and it is excellent.
I think it'll be the last x64 leak that can be activated with the RC keys so I think I'll run it until I get the real thing in October (or perhaps later in Europe)
Everyone is waiting for the actual RTM to leak but that will also not be able to be activated with the keys we have.
I've loved every minute of the last six months, being on this forum and waiting for cryptic messages being translated from Russian with news about the latest build etc.
It's been a strange trip, John

Hey Blue, I set ya up with x64 build 7232 as I spaced that build for some reason until I went to look up link info as I keep all the in my W7U builds folder.
I put you on this build for 2 reasons.

    1. It's the newest on that still uses the RC key.

    2. You can easily activate it using a RC key & the evaluation period is good till March 1st 2010.

Just check your PM for the info & enjoy...

As has been stated numerous times already, there is NO x64 build 7260! If you find one it's a Frankenstein build & not official.
