Windows 7: Clean Install For Windows 7 E Editions and From XP

Clean Install For Windows 7 E Editions and From XP

If in Europe you will be getting a 'E' Version of Windows 7 and having to perform a 'clean install'.

this also applies to those in areas receiving an 'upgrade disk' but going from XP

there are a few simple solutions to do this without having to backup all your data to removable media

1. if running vista you can shrink the volume in Disk Management, create a new partition with the recovered space and place all your personal files in this newly created partition....then when you receive your copy of 7 simply install it where vista was

2. if you are still using xp which cannot manage partitions itself download a copy or trial of a disk management/partition software and carry out a similar process

remembering that windows 7 requires 16gb for x86 (32bit) and 20gb for x64 (64bit)

I just thought this might be useful to those without ext hard drives

Nice post, but if you have it installed how do you go about obtaining an Internet Browser if you've not pre-downloaded one?

XP Windows7

lucky i have setup files for Chrome, FF, and internet explorer (i know its sh!t but my wife prefers IE),

its been mentioned before about windows explorer being able to access the web but every time i try it opens chrome, i might try and remove all browsers and attempt it again

for those that dont pre download a link i can only imagine that the local PC W0r!d will probably jump on the misfortunes of those and try charging them 50 to install it for them

Why doesn't that supprise me

The only reason I ask is mainly for those who wouldn't think to download a browser in advance.

Also I wouldn't mind testing the E version if you could PM me a link, no problem if not though...

XP Windows7

there hasn't been a separate RC of 7e, ive just been trying out the official RC and some of those available on the net.

if you look at the uk microsoft site and onto the win7 page it mentions in tiny font about having to downlaod a browser prior to installation

any how microsoft aren't allowed to have the software pre installed....maybe they will bundle windows 7e releases with a free copy of IE8 on Disk just to piss off the EU Courts

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Retail)

In addition to complying with the the restrictions the EU imposed on MS, I personally think MS is getting their revenge (and trying to save some money to recoup some or all of the fines that were imposed) by not going out of their (MS's) way to make things easy for people in the EU.

Important: The E editions of Windows 7 do not contain an Internet browser. Please get a browser from Microsoft or a third party and have it on a CD/DVD or another device so it's ready to install after the Windows 7 installation is complete.

Basically, if you don't downlad a browser before install Windows 7 you will have no way to access the internet

What is the world....sorry EU coming to
