Reddish colour in the taskbar

As somebody else already pointed out. the colour of the "glow" depends on the icon. If the icon is predominantly red, then the "glow" is red. If the icon is predominantly blue, the "glow" is blue.

This is called "Color Hot-Track".



It works by dynamically abstracting the color values of the application icon to find the most dominant RGB value. So when you hover over the icon, the glow changes according to the icon color.

It can be a bit buggy. Usually, a restart will solve most problems, but on some machines/setups it tends to "hang".

The only way to change it is to use some other visual style/theme.

If you change the icon to one with a different colour, then you will get a different "glow" colour. There is no other way to change it, except by applying a new theme/visual styles.

Mike's post #14 is the best explanation of it.
I looked into the theme part of it and it does not look like it's possible with a theme either.

One way to get rid of it is to set your taskbar to auto-hide. Also probably the reason it does not bother me much! :)
