Unknown file type cannot be deleted

Hello.

I am new to this forum, I registered here because I need help.

I had a FLV file on my computer. Accidentally I replaced it's file extension (I always disable my hide file extension option), so it turned out to be a FILE. What I did was, replace back the file into FLV by simple adding FLV extension on the file. It works, I can play the file. However, there was a new file pop into my desktop. It's file name was exactly the same into that FLV file, no file type and when I right click on its propertis it has 0 bytes. Worst of it, I can't be deleted, it always say "Could not find the item". I try to delete it in safe mode, but I've got no luck. Any help?

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

You may want to try using the System Recovery Options to delete the file. Once you have the recovery console up, follow these instructions...

File - Delete from Command Prompt

1, Open Command Prompt
2, type the following...

Code:

c: {enter}
cd\users\[your user]\desktop {enter}
del [filename] {enter}
exit {enter}

Note

You do not need to type anything contained in the {}

Please make note of any message that appear after the del function.
4, Now just click the X and reboot the machine.

In addition, if that doesn't help, then you might see if the free program Unlocker may be able to delete it.

I did what Brink suggested, installed Unlocker then use it. Success!

I'll keep note of the suggestion you made Orbital Shark in case I'll encounter files that can't be possibly delete by any software.
