Well they didn't say that it does it to all files. But it would be silly not to install the patch. You will be pissed when it starts wrecking the first 2 to 3 seconds of your mp3 files.

The bug is that if your MP3 has embedded graphics like album covers, WMP may splat the first couple seconds when it adds it to the library, permanently altering the original file.
No, it's not in windows update yet -- There was some update downloaded when I installed 7 yesterday, but I just installed the mp3 patch and it didn't say it was already installed or anything.
