    Administrator problem

I am running Windows 7 and I have done many clean installs over the years so I feel pretty comfortable with it. For some reason, on the most recent install, I cannot open the Documents and Settings folder.

Now, I've always been able to open this folder by doing all the Admin tricks available but this time i just can't open it. The message I get is something like "You do not have permission to open this object" (or something like that) and when I right click the folder and go to Properties to adjust the permissions, all I am getting when I try to edit the Permissions is "You do not own this folder" (or something like that)

I'm baffled! I've ALWAYS been able to open this folder - one way or another.

Any ideas?? - Thanks in advance.

First, you need to make sure Malware is not affecting your system. Download this,

    Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50.1 - FileHippo.com

install it, update the database and run a FULL scan.

If it finds anything, post the log here.

It is normal access is denied.

    You can try Properties>Security>Advanced>owner>edit

    reset it afterwards.

Any reason you want to access that?

If it's just a one off - easier to boot into pe and have a look from there.

Had this twice with malware preventing access, so I always ask to check malware first now.

    Hey guys,

It's normal to NOT be able to access the Documents and Settings folder. Notice it's a hidden folder.

That's because in Windows 7 all your user data is contained in the Users folder. Documents and Settings is included for application compatibility; it is merely a redirector for legacy apps attempting to access that exact link. "Documents and Settings" merely redirects to the Users folder; it doesn't contain any info itself.

    Hope this helps :)
