    Computer starts during sleep mode

    I often put my computer in Sleep mode - as a matter of fact I changed the Power button to say Sleep instead of Shut Down.
    Just recently it started coming on all on its own even though I'm nowhere near it.
    This will happen at different time intervals after I put it to sleep, no pattern, sometimes 10 minutes later sometimes 2 hours.... just depends.

    Any ideas what could be going on?

    Thanks

    A

    Not sure really, but just as a suggestion you might check your BIOS settings to see whats going on. It may be wake on LAN or other settings there that could cause this. Or could something be bumping your mouse/keyboard? (cat, kids, etc.) :)

    Hello Aperture,

    In addition, you might run the lastwake command to see if it may be able to help ID what last woke your computer.

    Hope this helps,

    Found that in case registry settings behavior had been changed,

    go Start Button=>Run (type in box, regedit) at prompt command click YES:

    Go here:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog]

    Check the value be set by default to 2:
    "ObjectName"="NT AUTHORITY\\LocalService"
    "Start"=dword:00000002

    And Here:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Schedule]
    "ObjectName"="LocalSystem"
    "Start"=dword:00000002

    Just wanted to come back and say thanks for your help.

    I believe the problem is fixed. I went into the power options and under my power setting, high performance, made some changes.
    I also went into the device manager and went into the USB controllers and disabled "Allow the computer....." in all the USB Root Hubs.

    Whatever was causing the problem appears to be ok because I left the computer in "Sleep" over night and it never came on.

    So, thanks a lot for your help.
    Hope this was it.

    It seems I have found the source of these constant startups in sleep mode.

    When I go to the device manager and go through the Universal Serial Bus Controllers the Power Management>"Allow the computer..." is unchecked on all of them.

    Also under Power Management (my plan is High Performance) the "USB settings" in Power Options is "Disabled".

    I have attached a picture of the "Last Wake Command".
    What would be my next step in insuring this stops from now on?

    Thanks

    A

    Hello Aperture,

    Now that you know that it's coming from your "USB Root Hub" (Universal Serial Bus controllers), use the HID # of the device in the Instance Path in your screenshot above to look up and confirm this device in Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) and see if you may be able to set it's "Power Management" setting to not wake the computer using the tutorial below.

    Devices - Allow or Prevent to Wake Up Computer

    Hope this helps,
