    Windows Explorer won't maximize

Hi, I have a client who had a problem on his Windows Explorer in windows 7 64 bit. When he opens the windows explorer, it will show on the taskbar but it will not show on the screen. When he click on it, it will also open. Right click on it but no option to maximize or restore.

The same problem with the task manager. But there's no problem opening other applications.

Please help or point me to another thread if this was already been solve. Thanks in advance.

For windows Explorer go to All Programs/Accessories, right click the Explorer shortcut/Properties. Make sure it is set to Open in normal window. Then click apply and try it. I don't know where a shortcut for Task manager is, the .exe in system32 does not offer this option. Hope it works for you.

In addition to Britton30's suggestion, this may also be of help:

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You may also want to run a malwarebytes full scan. The free version will work fine.

Is that a laptop or desktop?

In any case, sometimes this happens if earlier you used a second monitor (more common with laptops) which is disconnected now. If a program was closed on that second monitor, then it will be opened on the second monitor again, even if you have it disconnected. Sometimes Windows does not pay attention. In this case there won't be any option to restore, since Windows thinks that it is already open. The easiest way to solve the problem is to connect another monitor, move the Window back and close in the main screen.

    Thanks for all your suggestions.

I'll check on that. But I'll just want to inform you that whereever I open a windows explorer, it maximize or on normal mode. Like opening the My computer, Users Folder or by typing the drive letter on the run command.

I already check it using combofix and repair some of the problems. I already restore the system from the system backup. But the problem is still there. I'll try your suggestions.

This is a desktop and I only use one monitor.

    Feedback later.

Na, it didn't work. I tried to do the shift+right click and restore or maximize, still no display. It seems it display to somehwere else coz when I do the shift+right click again it indicates that it's already opened.

Did you do it THIS WAY? since you say "restore or maximize" I would say you right-clicked the task bar icon.

    Common Glitch

Even though my Windows Explorer is set to Run: Maximised, it often opens windows in Normal window mode.

Have you tried the various 'manual' methods:

    1. Maximize your window size by dragging each of the 4 edges of the window all the way out to the edges of the screen. Then hold down the Alt key and press the "X" close button. Next time you open that link it should open in the maximized size, the way it was when you closed it!

    OR

    2. Maximize your window size by dragging each of the 4 edges of the window all the way out to the edges of the screen. Then, while holding the Ctrl + Shift keys, close it by clicking File, Close. You might have to do it a few times to make it learn. If this doesn't work, try again, but this time, still holding the Ctrl + Shift keys, close they maximized window using the X icon.

    OR

    3. Open Windows Explorer and Maximize it using the “1” icon.
Hold down the Shift key and click on the X to close the window.
The system should remember to maximize the window it next you open it.
