How can I burn mkv files in win 7 dvd maker

You'll probably need to either convert the files, or use something else to handle the burning. I'm sure there are some free burning apps that would handle the task.
According to a quick perusal of the links below, Win DVD Maker doesn't support mkv files. Finding a good converter seems to be the solution. Finding the right solution may just take a bit of research and a spindle of DVDs (or a pack of DVD-RWs) to get the desired results. Here are the links:

Have you TRIED any of those? The Leawo MKV to DVD Converter looks promising. At any rate as has been said, you will need some 3rd party software to accomplish burning MKV's. A paid version, say of Roxio or Nero, may do the job for you much better with more options. Just an example, I'm not promoting any one company.

Win X DVD Author works fine with mkv files. Discovered this by accident as mkv isn't listed in the supported video files drop down box. But just select 'all files', then add the mkv file and make the DVD!
