Is the setting to auto hide the taskbar cleared? And the option for a window to cover the taksbar?

I ran scannow, the screen blinked but I saw no window or anything so I don't know if it actually ran. At any rate, it didn't work.
Of course autohide is unchecked and the window doesn't cover the taskbar area. Microsoft just contacted me and wanted to know who the "a lot of people" are that reported this issue. I linked him to this thread. If he gives me a solution, I will report it here. Meanwhile if anyone else figures it out, please post.

ATI HK4870x2 with Asus Rampage 2 Motherboard with W7 Ultimate 32 bit version (don't ask, har)

    C:\Users\XXXXX>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

killing restarting explorer does resolve, appears to be related to screensaver, trying different SS's now...

    Same problem

I left my computer on for a few hours, came back, my taskbar was also gone. I've tried selecting/unselecting auto-hide taskbar and opening some apps from the start menu, but still no taskbar. However, it works if I close explorer.exe in task manager and then restart it in run, as mentioned above. It's very odd. Why does this happen? I hope Microsoft fixes it in an update soon.

I have the same problem. The taskbar disappears after the screensaver runs. I have Home Premium 64-bit and an ATI card. Using the "Preview" option in the screensaver settings makes the taskbar reappear. Glad it's not just me!

    This is a strange problem....

I might recommend a video driver update.

I don't think it's the video card. I know my driver is up to date. A fellow from Microsoft "Engineering Windows 7" was in touch with me a couple of weeks ago, but nothing since. I'll email him again to see if anyone is actually working on it, because he initially thougt it was only a couple of people having this problem. I assured him it was a considerable and growing number. Too bad, it's my only complaint with W7 so far, but it is irritating when you have to preview the screensaver several times a day to get the taskbar back.

Try an older driver and see if it still occurs.

Well, as per some of you guys, I've experienced the same issue whereby after resuming from a screensaver (in this case fliqlo) - on occasion, the taskbar has gone, and all I can see is the windows icon start button.

The screenshots posted by some members earlier are just like what I'm getting.

I'm running W7 Ultimate, with all the updates/patches applied.

I think W7 should be more resilient than that - especially since the screensaver isn't crashing or anything.

I believe this is a bug. I wonder how we can report it to microsoft.
