    Copying Files Bug?

I am not sure if this is a bug or if I have to "turn something on" or what. I didn't see it in the lists of things that are missing:

I was moving some files from one drive to another. Identical files. What I discovered is Windows 7 defaults to making a copy (adding -copy at the end of the file name) instead of asking you whether you want to "copy and replace" (overwrite) the other file as was done in Vista. This also occurs if I move a file from one folder to another within the same drive.

I looked in file/folder options but I don't see anything to change this.

Strange I have not had that problem, you should send Microsoft some feedback on the problem.

Yeah, I too have not encountered that. I always get the copy/replace/rename dialog.

Does this happen every time you copy a file to a directory where a file with that name already exists? Or did it just happen that once?

I too am having this problem. Have not yet found a solution.

    Report this to MS

Hi. I think it's a bug in the beta, it happens when you drag and drop but not when you use the right click menu to copy and paste, or move. The new file shows up with -copy rather than with (2) in the file name as it does when you copy a file using copy/paste.

I am reporting it, maybe others can do also.

wpompen, u installed 7 beta on your lappie AND your pc? Brave man LOL!

I have this on a 5 year old desktop replacement Toshiba Satellite P20 which ran XP, only 0.5 gig of memory, it runs Win7 reasonable well, but Windows Experience score 1.0 - I only wanted to test the file handling operations :) Anything's better than Vista's file handling though.

W7 beats vista, simple as that...

ps: it's a HP 8710w it runs like a charm, almost all drivers are available through the updates... except wlan/bluetooth but the hp drivers are easily installed/found

Yup. Have it on 4 machines at home here, including a server.

This copy/replace bug/anomaly is the only oddity in the month I've used W7. I really wish we could figure it out.
