Copying Files Bug?

I have noticed the same thing with the COPY. If the target file or folder already exists, you expect to get prompted what to do (Copy and Replace, Skip, or Copy and Keep), and sometimes I do, but some of the time it chooses a default of "copy and keep" for me w/o asking, end up with the original, and then a copy with the same name, appended with (COPY) or (2) appended.

I have noticed other odd behavior with Explorer (which I may discuss in another thread), so that may have something to do with it, too.

I'll spend a little time seeing if I can reproduce easily, and then "Send Feedback" on it.

NOTE: I believe the problem occurs when I left-click and drag, for default "copy" action, as opposed to right-click, drag, select "Copy".

It might just be a new feature...you never know.

I have 4 machines with W7, three at x64, one at x86. One x64 works like Vista (offers the dialog box) every time. The other three never do. I have no idea what may be different on the three, or what may have been done when to cause one or the other.

Anyone ever get this figured out? I'm seeing the same thing and would love to get it straightened out.

I installed an app called Classic Shell (Welcome to Classic Shell), and now I'm always prompted when the a duplicate name/folder already exists in the target directory (and given the choices of how to handle it).
