Then, on the other hand, one could replace the MS keyboard, instead of the mouse or software. I use Logitech Cordless Trackman Wheel micewith both a Logitech Media keyboard, and a Saitek Eclipse keyboard. Of course, both of these keyboards are wired, but in the past, I also used a MS cordless keyboard, without any problems either.

I'm having a very similar problem with my new machine. If I try and type anything the keys keep repeating forever... the really odd thing is that no matter what I type it is generally the number 5 that shows up and repeats. Once this happens it doesn't matter what keyboard I have connected, Microsoft wireless media keyboard, Logitech wired wave, or even remotely connecting with another machine, once the repeating issue starts it doesn't stop. If I reset the machine it will work fine at first. Sometimes it will work fine for a few hours, other times not even a few seconds.

The case I have is the Antec Veris Fusion Remote and it comes with remote that uses iMon/iMeridian software to control it. I've also got an IR USB receiver connected so that I can use my wirelss XP Media keyboard. I'm wondering if maybe they might be conflicting? I'm going to try and remove the receiver but I am skeptical that it will solve the issue, only because I can turn off the keyboard and the problem keeps going.

I know I don't have any viruses on my machine and my copy of Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium is legit and up to date.

I've been searching around on Google and this post is the only one that seems to come close to my problem. It's really frustrating and I am almost at the point where I am ready to format my drive and reinstall everything.

Looking forward to hearing back from the community here. You've always been helpful in the past.

Cheers

I'm not familiar with that hardware, but does the remote that you mentioned have a keyboard function on it? Is it possible that the # 5 key is stuck on it? Can you, and have you tried disconnecting it to see if the problem continues?

I have tried plugging in various keyboards as well as removing the IR receiver. I've dropped the setting in windows that ignores repeated keystrokes to a lower value and that seems to have helped. The other day though the problem popped ip again. Reseting the computer made it go away. Also to answer your other question... There is no stuck key. That was the first thing I checked for :-)

Since it appears that you have eliminated the possibility of a hardware problem, that only leaves software, and since the problem returns on a regular basis, that suggests that it is a program set to start with Windows. The method to determine which is to do a clean boot, and if that eliminates the problem, it confirms the idea we have set out with, therefore that would have to be followed by reenabling the startup programs, either one by one, or by alternating blocks of programs, until you can pinpoint the culprit, and spring the trapdoor on it.

Not really, It could be another IR device in the house causing the problem. Perhaps a TV remote, wireless headphone transmitter, the kids remote control car etc.

Thanks for the replies everyone...

There were some more Windows updates that came up yesterday for me. I haven't had the problem happen since installing them. Let's hope that perhaps I have seen the end of this issues <fingers crossed>....

Now it's time to move on to my network drives not connecting at startup until I click on them... :P

jumping keystrokes
I have a Windows seven 64 bit laptop and when typing, the cursor will jump back to some place else in the text. Very annoying. I try typing slower but it still seems to happen. If I use an external keyboard, the problem seems to go away. I keep my hands away from the laptop cursor controls....

Keystrokes have swapped around
For some reason unknown to me, my @ button and my " button have swapped around. I think it happened when I was studying VBA from a book I bought but the author doesn't provide any back up assistance for her tutorials. I have tried almost everything to reverse the process apart from re-formatting...
