    Just my thoughts

I just started using 7 and installed 7100 because I wanted to go with something more official and something that would have more support from others who have already installed it.

I hear that the leaked RTMs cannot be activated or something which was another reason I just avoided going higher than 7100.

Anyhow. WOW I mean seriously this is impressive. I was expecting better than vista but the 7100 build for me is making XP pro look bad in more ways than one.

I am sure of one thing. This OS is smokin fast next to anything else I have used and not just fast as in boot time or file access but because it runs so fast and smooth doing work in it has been a real pleasant experience all around.

I noticed one big thing right off and that was the optical drive access times. XP was a real dog when it came to putting any kind of disc in. I always hated having to use anything that was on a DVD or CD because you put the disc in then wait forever for it to load. This is greatly improved in 7 and that alone makes me happy as hell.

Pretty much everything happens faster in this which was actually shocking.

I could go on all day and night about the visual experience this OS is a real work of art as far as the UI goes. And it does that while only using roughly 200mb more ram than XP did for me. Again impressive to say the least.

I also like the fact that I am not rushed to install a graphics driver. I noticed that once I was on the desktop after the install I had no buggyness in the graphics. On XP you would get laggy blippy graphics dragging windows around on the desktop and scrolling through web pages. You also had rather limited resolutions until you installed some graphics drivers. Again another fine point of 7.

I run dual monitors and was pleased to see them already set the way I wanted when I entered the desktop for the first time.

And so far the only issue with any software was windows messenger live formerly known as msn messenger. Awesome how microsoft software is the only thing giving me trouble on a microsoft OS. Laughable really. Looks like I will be stuck trying to access my messenger from a gadget or some other work around until they update.

Still things have been peachy so far and at this point I would waste no time throwing down $320.00 USD for a copy of ultimate.

The latest build I have tried, that could be activated normally with RC - keys was build 7229, and this build is somewhat faster than build 7100. Before you install too much in 7100, PM one from staff for info about getting 7229 (or a later or better build if somebody knows about this).

7229 was for me the best build of those activating normally :)

The thing that I really liked about Windows 7 was the long beta and release candidate programs that were available to everybody. I've been shying away from 64 bit releases for quite a while now, assuming that I would have problems. However, with a free version just waiting there for me, I snagged it up, installed everything that I wanted and was pleasantly surprised to find that nothing that I wanted to run had a problem or issue. So, when it was time to buy parts for a new computer, I ordered Vista 64-bit with a free upgrade to Win7. Needless to say, I have not yet installed Vista and nor do I have plans to. I'll be sticking with Win7 RC1 until I get my official copy from MS in the fall.

Hello Corpsecrank, Welcome to the Forum, :)

Glad to hear your enjoying Windows 7. Its a big improvement in many categories. Speed and reliability have been rock solid here. Keep trying and reading up on all the new features, some will surprise you.

There's a feature I learned about today, called "Problem Steps Recorder". But don't let the name fool you, it has other uses as well. It can be used to help others find there way by showing them the steps to accomplish what they need to do.

Example: Lets say someone you know can't find the advanced options to a network adapter. You could use the recorder, do the steps to get there, save it to a zip, then upload to a sharing site for your friend to download and review.

IMHO, many new features along with great performance and reliability will make this Microsoft's best OS to date.

Glad to see here on the Forum, Have Fun!

I keep thinking back to the last time I wanted to try something different. I was tired of using XP Pro x86 and got the great idea to install the x64 edition. What a nightmare.

I think XP x64 edition could have been great had it gotten the same love that the x86 received but they really dropped the ball on that one and further delayed 64bit adoption by the general public.

I was happy to see that the RC was so stable and usable. I have been wanting something better to take full advantage of my rig.

I installed Adobe CS4 tonight. When I installed it a couple of months ago on XP Pro x86 it took 2 hours. When I installed it tonight on 7 x86 it took 1 hour. That really shows just how much faster the 7100 RC is compared to XP Pro with SP3. Blows my mind. I think I am still adjusting to the incredible power of this new OS lol.

The thing with XP x64 was that it was too early. No one had any drivers for it, and no one knew what the heck it was. Now, we know a lot more, and with 4 gigs of RAM being the NORM as opposed to the Exception, more and more computers are coming preinstalled with x64 versions. This means more drivers, and a better experience.

Should I stay or should I go

I have 7100 build...should I stay here, or upgrade, or just wait for the final OS which I have pre-ordered? I am quite happy with 7100 by the way...and on another somewhat related subject, can someone give me info on how to have my apps ready to switch over for clean install in October? Is there a way to put them on one of my other satellite hard drives and then switch them over after clean install?...Thanks!

It would be easier (imo) to just wait for RTM.
