You don't say what application(s) you are using when the save access is denied. Have you tried running those
application(s) as admin? Have you tried saving files via other programs to the same location?

James, I only have an admin user account. No other accounts. When I first encountered the problem the only programs running were Notepad and Windows Explorer ... apart from all the things that the computer starts automatically with it.

I thouroghly read through your posts & it's become clear that this is the least of your problems, am I right?
Something is crippling your system. It could help if you'd do a complete format ( of both HDD) and a clean install, instead of restoring to factory settings that time.

    I know you did :)
The only problem that I have .. at the moment .. is being able to save things to my library folders (hopefully you understand that I do mean the folders).

I suspect that in a months time or so, the stalling, double program opening thing, and sound card issues will probably reoccur. They have not yet started .. but it's only about 48 hours since I reinstalled it. If I could, I'd throw my computer at someone and ask them to fix it, but unfortunately I no longer have that luxury

Back up your important files & do a clean install. It would be the best course of action, given the amount of problems which you say are reoccuring. BTW: Did you scan with Malwarebytes in safe mode?

Incidentally, I discovered yesterday that this model has been discontinued. It was discontinued just before my (ex) husband bought it. I suspect he bought end of line at a discount .. which may possibly explain it's problems .. I don't know?

I then discovered this morning that the model written on the back of the laptop is not the same that the system information says. I'm not sure if the two model names are actually the same thing though:
Sticker says: Asus X5DIJ Notepad PC
System Info says: Asus Notebook K40IJ/K50IJ Series

And when looking up the information for the X5DIJ it seems that this machine has the wrong display adapter in it. It has an Intel, where they usually have NVidea.

    Basically .. I think it's erm ...

Oh frell!!! Sorry .. forgot to do it in Safemode. *mutter* *mutter* *mutter*

Ok ... so clean install. BUT .. when I do a clean install it doesn't do anything to do the D drive (which is already backed up from last time). So .. shall I reformat the D drive itself too?

Will there be a limited number of times the computer will allow me to do a clean install do you think?

When you say clean install you mean return to factory settings, right? I don't have an installation disk for Windows7 .. all the files are on this .. thing

That would be best, seems the D drive is a part of the problem, so a format of both disks would be advisable. Better to start with a clean slate. You can format, reinstall and clean install as many times you want, there shouldn't be any limits.
But before you opt for a format & clean install, I'd suggest you run a MBAM scan in safe mode, just to be sure.

Then a clean install has never been done on your system? But you do have a recovery disc, right?

Apologies for intruding...but have you tried to (link-->) Take Ownership (<--link) of the D:\ drive. Especially if the drive was under previous use by another username. This may or may not solve your problem. Please note the warnings against using this on your system drive!
