[ask] how to keep dialog box from popping up

hi, this is very annoying since the invention of windows.

programs have their own notifications/dialog boxes that pop up undesirably (i.e. copy fails, Y!M gets disconnected, broadband connection is lost).

like when i am typing, they pop up and steal the focus, then suddenly i don't know what command i issue.
or when i am playing some games in full screen. suddenly they pop up, bring me back to windows, and i lose the battle.

these are very very annoying. do you guys know how to switch these off or make them pop up in background?

What does the pop say? Where does it pop up on the your screen? What else are you doing on your computer when it pops up? Are you talking about notifications on the task bar?

it all depends on which program is generating the pop-ups or notifications or whatever they are. have a look through the program's options or preferences.

it would help us to help you if you gave us a clear example of one of these troublesome pop-ups...

    example1: yahoo messenger gets disconnected
    example2: windows replace confirmation

    example1 is program-specific
    example2 is windows-related

i understand in example1 it has to be set by the program, problem is alot of programs have annoying popup and i need them badly (yahoo messenger, jdownloader captcha)

example2 can do some damage because when i type on another program, i can accidentally press some shortcut. it's not just replace confirmation, alot of windows related tasks dialog boxes pop up frequently

how to switch them off or better: make them appear only on background so nothing steal my focused application.

For the obvious solution, turn Yahoo messenger OFF before you start something you don't want interupted. It has options for how to display new message windows, i.e. a full window display or a taskbar notification. I have not seen an option for turning off the "Can't Connect" dialog box. It might help if you do not have it set to start/connect when you start the computer.
For the file copying/moving, Windows it trying to help you so you don't delete/overwrite a file you want to keep. This is a windows feature I don't think can be turned off.
I have no suggestion for the Broadband connection issue other than select one to connect to autmatically?

no i can't switch the programs off because i need them badly.

sorry i asked wrongly. the right question is not to turn them off, but to have them pop in background (only flashing in taskbar, not stealing my topmost app), because sometimes that happens when i type and i press the shortcut accidentally (like i'm typing Y for YES to overwrite).

the examples are just 2, there are a lot of programs and windows tasks that have behavior like that.
is there any tweak to registry to make them pop in background?

It is the way windows and programs let a user know it needs attention so nothing is missed. For me, at least, those notifications don't steal focus from what I'm doing.
