Windows 7 SEARCH vs Apple Tiger/Leopard (GOOD USENET WINDOWS PROGRAM?)

One thing that drove me crazy when using windows vs say a mac is that all mac programs use the search, spotlight feature really well.

For example, when launching UNISON, a usenet program for Apple OS, and you typed "shooter" you would instantly get every instance of the word "shooter" in a matter of seconds. On Vista, it was a completely different story. Using Forte Free agent, it could take up to 10 minutes, sometimes longer, as it searched out every instance of "shooter" before showing you all the hits/posts that you were looking for.

Just wondering if the file indexing/search has changed in Windows 7 compared to Vista and if developers would embrace this if it works.

Would also like information on any usenet programs for windows 7 that may work.

    Thanks

Let me re-phrase - does anyone know if the Windows 7 architecture for searching has been updated? In Vista it took a while to span, search across all discs and am wondering if search had been updated.

    Thanks -

The second question is, what is the best USENET program one can use for Windows 7 or Vista? Forte is very out dated in my opinion.

    Thank you.

Windows 7 includes many improvements to the Windows Search feature, including improvements to both the indexer and the search UI throughout the OS.

Have you tried using Windows Live Mail as a newsreader?

Nothing wrong with the Vista search. I serched 2TB accross 5 partitions and the searches rarely tool longer then 8~10 seconds. And I have a lot of crap to index. I just started last night running stuff off to externals.

I expect Win7 to be at least as good as Vista.

You must be useing old hardware or something to have searches go for that long.

    Corrupt data maybe.

Bad hard drive. Possibly starting to fail.

Assuming your using USENET to download stuff, use Grabit as the program, and newzleech.com as a search.

Thanks, trying live now (mail) for newsgroups.

It only gave me 300 headers, how do I change that? I looked at all the windows.

One of the things I was trying to say regarding search was filtering for example. In Unison, a Mac Application, it uses the shell of spot light so if I were to search "utilit" for example in the newsgroups, it would show all groups containing the word "utilities" and would list the one with the MOST at the TOP, as well as how many headers, before joining, subscribing. This would be done faster than I could type the complete word.

Then once you do subscribe, it takes literally 2 seconds to filter ANY word you type in the search bar.

Anyway, if I can get more than 300 in boneless newsgroup this would be helpful. Then I can check out the filtering/search quality of Mail Live and see how it fares and report accordingly.'

    Please advise, thank you.

    Thanks

Okay, since the last time I posted in this thread, I tried to get all the headers using Live News reader, and it never got all the headers. Presently it says 335 messages, 334 unread and 610000688 NOT DOWNLOADED. Anyone know how to get all the message headers?

Sorry for the bump but assume someone here knows how to get LIVE newsgroups to get more than 300 headers, yes?

    Advice appreciated.

Will try out your suggestion as well. With regard to the search, if using Forte (windows), it took a while to scan each and every header and for sure know that the program (FREE AGENT) was not making use of the coding that the windows shell had.

Wondering what type of changes they made to indexing/journaling in WIN7.
