    The Default Windows Desktop Background....WTH?

This post is a truly nit-picking personal pet peeve of mine, but I have GOT to say something regarding this after dealing with Windows versions since 3.x.

Who the hell picks the default Windows Installation Desktop Backgrounds? A committee of failed artists?

Really, the XP one (the pasture picture) was UGLY, IMO. A really poor quality picture with no substance at all and harsh color composition. Besides that, Institutions have studies that have found that green is an "irritating" color as opposed to a "soothing" color like blue.

Now for W7 - a glorified Windows Flag? The Beta Fish at least had some artistic sense. The glorified Windows Flag is not UGLY per se just TACKY in composition and color.

I know it has to deal with the "lowest common denominator" in a desktop video card and monitor resolution, but a simple soft-tone color gradation with a complimentary colored "7" would do just as fine.

    Really, who picks these things!

There, I have said it... JMO...

    Just my opinion....

Sorry but I love the new background. It has the logo, nice colors, and effects for each of the different slices of the Window.

I mean just think, it has to please the whole world, all countries, all businesses, all homes, all races, colors, creeds, etc... It has to represent MS, but also have some energy to it. There is a lot riding on their default background, it is the first impression anyone has of the OS.

The themes options are quality through this OP, with plenty to make the system look top draw. I particularly like the rotating backgorund scenes. Just brightens up the desktop no end!

Really good job throughout IMO. :)

Ohhhh.... alright, its not that bad. At least its not the d&med green pasture.

I did say it was just my opinion...... and I need SOMETHING to complain about... but I'm out-voted.

And I do like the rotating desktop....

P.S. When I go to Best Buy, I'm still going to go around and change all the desktops....

    I would have to agree!!

Why have a 'default' background as the Windows LOGO? Is it to say 'I am Windows, hear me roar!!'

Surely we don't need to be reminded that we have just installed....Wait for it.....Windows!!! LOL

If I pay for Windows, I expect Windows, I don't need to be told by my desktop that 'Oh yeah, by the way, you're running Windows'

I like how they added the rotating wallpapers as well, mac os x has had that for years and I always liked it.

As to this default background which one exactly are we talking about here, considering the op did not post a screen of it, I cant be certain.

When I installed 7100 I got the same fish wallpaper as 7000, what gives?

I switched to the new mac wallpapers though, they are so nice, they are the two without ms logo obviously.

Is this the aforementioned "glorified" ms default wallpaper you are all talking about?
