C:\Recovery - directory ??? help lost files in this

Hi Folks,

I was just operating file explorer... and I had some really important files and documents in my folder named C:\DOC\TAXES

I was cleaning up C:\DOC folder and decided to temporarily MOVE the subfolder TAXES momentarily to C:\Recovery

The MOVE operation completed.

When I tried to subsequently click C:\Recovery, it gave me a message "C:\Recovery is not accessible... Operation denied"

My very important files are gone... :'( :'( :'(

Can someone help me please... this is such a valuable loss and I have to respond to this tomorrow or my goose will be cooked.

This operating system is not making any sense to me...

Why would they permit me to move files to a folder C:\Recovery ?

I do not know how to get them back.

ok... fixed it... I went to properties of the recovery folder, and added myself as a user with full permissions. That did it... I could see my files and moved them back.

Pheeew... thought I was in trouble.

Why would you put files into a folder you knew nothing about is the big question.

Like MacGyvr says, I'm mystified as why you should transfer a file to your recovery partition. It is used to recover your computer to its factory state and shouldn't be tampered with. If you wreck the recovery partition and don't have a recovery disc then your only recourse would be to beg, steal or borrow a Windows DVD to get you up and running again.

A factory restore is much quicker when carried out using the recovery partition than one carried out by a recovery disc (s).

C:\Recovery is not a recovery partition. by looking closer you will see that's a folder in the "C:\" partition, after the folder "ProgramData" and before the "System Volume Information" folder.
recovery partitions, as you should know, are usually hidden from Windows by default and most definitely not located inside the "C:\" partition.
perhaps a little closer scrutiny of you own file system might afford to some, a less misleading answer concerning recovery partitions, recovery folders and recovering data from those types of partitions and folders... perhaps not.

I fail to see what you're hoping to achieve by sticking a comment on the end of a thread that is nearly a year old.
