    Recycle Bin mis-names recovered files

When I put a file into the recycle bin, if I have to recover it from the recycle bin, when I take it out it seems to have lost the file name information. Screen shots below.

If you know why it might be doing this, please let me know why, and if you know of a fix. Thanks. :)

I created a file, a folder, and a second file inside the folder.

The recycle bin is completely empty.

I put the files in the recycle bin, and they retain their file names.

When I take them out, their names turn into $RE0HPI9 and $RX5JNJA.txt, which don't represent the original file name at all...

The curious thing is, the file inside the renamed folder is still the same name as it was before I put it in the recycle bin.

How are you taking them out of the recycle bin? If you drag and drop or right click and move then they get the weird names you show. If you right click on a file and select Restore then it will be put back where it came from with the original name.

You appear to be correct. However, this doesn't happen on other Windows 7 installations, or other Windows operating systems for that matter, why is this happening on this specific machine?

That's how it works on my Win 7 Pro X64 system. Does not work that way on XP though. Must have been a change for Vista/Win 7.

If you're using TeraCopy, it could be the reason:

    "
    TeraCopy bugs, issue#19
"Names are mangled when you drag files out of the recycle bin"

    Description and details.
If you have TeraCopy registered as the default copy/move handler, if you delete a file and then try to drag it out of the recycle bin to somewhere else, the file is restored with a mangled name like $RSDKJFH rather than the name the user usually sees.

If one right clicks on a file and selects "restore", the file is restored to its original location with the corrected filename (which I assume is because TeraCopy never gets involved). However, if the file is dragged out of the recycle bin and dropped somewhere, the name mangling occurs.

It solved my issues with this problem, hope it helps.

Hmm, the file names remain whether I drag them from Recycle Bin or click Restore. I can't replicate the problem.
You can try sfc /scannow to see if it will fix it.

Also How to post Screenshot or snip.
