I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x86 on this system:

Motherboard: Abit KW7
RAM: 1GB OCZ Gold Dual Channel 512x2 400Mhz PC3200
Chipsets: Northbridge:VIA-KT880 Southbridge: VIA-VT8237
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.16GHz Socket-A
AGP: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 128MB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 100GB ATA

This OS is MUCH faster than XP-Pro SP3 if you can believe it. So far, I haven't been able to get it to hang up with any application whatsoever. And I even tried playing DVD movies while having Norton do a complete system scan [no lag]. It's actually pretty fast. Microsoft got it right this time.

I remember I installed Win7 on two old rigs of mine. It's not a 1990 PC like someone manage to install Win7 on, but the fact that it runs great is quite an accomplishment-enough for me.

MoBo: Intel D865PERL
CPU: Pentium 4 @ 2.29 GHz
GFX: ATI Radeon 9250 128MB AGPx8
RAM: DDR-333 512GB
HDD: Seagate 80GB SATA (WEI @ 5.8- made me very very happy then )

Other Rig:
MoBo: Forgot; cheap asus mobo with no SATA support
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 @ 1.8Ghz
GFX: Built-in; then replaced with ATI Radeon 9500 128MB x8 AGP
RAM: DDR266 1GB

4GB max. I really like this Abit board though. It's a friggin' tank as far as durability. I've beat the heck out of this thing, and it just keeps pluggin' along. I don't believe Abit makes boards anymore, although I could be wrong. Too bad because they have one VERY satisfied customer here. I use this rig for testing out software applications before I install on my main rig. However, since I've decided to go with the x64 platform, I can no longer use it for that. This is one of the first Motherboards out that had Hyperthread technology AND dual channel memory capability, so that's why I bought it [Motherboard & CPU combo from TigerDirect].

I can't believe you did an install on a Commadore....LOL

They made Motherboards with 333 memory sockets that supported SATA? Or are you using a SATA PCI adapter card? The memory type you have listed seems like the oddball along with a Pentium-4 CPU and SATA. I can't belive your WEI is that high with the old 333 memory modules. That blows my mind.

*EDIT*
Scratch that question. I was thinking of the old 133-SDRAM modules...duh!

Computers with USB 3 and Windows 7
I notice that several new computers come with USB 3.0 ports and Windows 7 Home Premium installed. It is my understanding the W7 does not support USB 3.0. If so, what advantage does having the USB 3 port on such a computer? Thank you.
