    This is really really Wierd!

    Hi all.

I'm just about to switch of my computer now(Win7) and as I click the start button to press 'shut down' there is nothing there. The whole button has dissapeared completely. I can't restart, hibernate, nothing!

I'm not a big fan of pressing the power button to turn my system off but I might have to do that. Unreal.

I'm gonna run AVG now and then press the power button to shut down. It's all that I can think of doing.

Does anyone know what's going on? I've never seen anything like it.

I'm googlied, stumped and ran out all at once.

Any help would be great, cheers, Ste.

System files may be corrupt, run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Download Malwarebytes, update it and run a scan

Cheers for getting back to me yowanvista.

I ran command admin command promt -> sfc /scannow 3 times and then ran malwarebytes and found nothing.
I was about to shudown when I decided to check again and tada! the button is there.

The reply from the admin promt was - 'Windows Rescource Protection did not find any integrity violations.'

It's strange all over. Thanks for your input which is always needed with an untechy person like me.

    Thanks again, Ste.

Using the power button to shut down is perfectly acceptable as long as you are not holding it in to cut the power. Just press it and let go...this performs a normal Windows shutdown.

It depends on how Windows is configured.
    Options are: hibernate, suspend, shutdown.

Run "shutdown /s" in a command prompt or the Start menu and it will shutdown. A restart might fix this problem, I guess...
