    Microsoft Publisher

.pub is a Microsoft Publisher doc extension. In your file associations the .pub should be associated with Microsoft Publisher. If you don't have Publisher what ever program you are using should be the associated .exe file. Not familiar with Jaws 12 if that is a reader associate the file with it.

Here is a link for configuring Jaws 12

Could be the .pub file was infected with some malware. Do you know the person who sent it and does that person know they sent it? some viruses spread by replicating and emailing itself out to a user's contact list.

What does this have to do with your original problem? I'm confused.

Not all versions of MS Office suites include MS Publisher.
    See this link :

Without knowing what Jaw12 is, I'd say that if you do not have MS Publisher, tell your sender NOT to send attachments with .pub extension.
