    Apps lose focus

There are several threads about various kinds of loss of focus but none are quite like mine. In the last several days, the app window with the focus will spontaneously lose focus. This happens about every 10 to 15 seconds. To restore focus, I must click within the app. Then I get about 10 to 15 seconds of up time before the next loss of focus.

I thought it might be Carbonite running in the background but, I paused it and the thing still happens. Sleep is set to "never."

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

    Welcome
Never had the problem but sounds like its a problem caused by other software. A clean boot may help
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Okay, I think I found the problem. McAfee went all monkey-sweat in the background. I reinstalled it (a 90-minute ordeal) and the problem seems to have resolved. I have worked with computers since the mid-sixties. How do ordinary people deal with this sort of thing?

Removing McAfee was a good idea. Reinstalling it was not. 'nuff said.
