    Menu selection problem

    Hi,
The problem is simple but difficult to explain. For some time now, I have been dealing with (basically trying to ignore) an issue where I am unable to use the mouse to select a menu item from any app, including Windows.
What occurs is that the dropdown list appears, but before I can select an item, it disappears. Sometimes I can manipulate it in such a way that I can use my keyboard arrow keys to access the item, but not always.

I'm guessing something got tweaked while I wasn't paying attention, but I have had enough and need to get it fixed.

I know this description sounds a little fuzzy, but it's the only way I can think of to say what's going on. Questions are welcome...answers are even better!

    Thanks in advance,
    Jake

Run a full anti virus scan
Download and make a full scan with malwarebytes
    Try and SFC command
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Mouse losing focus

    Hi,
The issue I am dealing with is not easy to put into words, but I'll try to be clear.
The problem began about 6 months ago and I tried to put up with it, but I've had enough - which means that I can't associate any specifics to what might have been the catalyst.

The only way to describe the problem is to give an example or two...
ex 1: If I try to customize the notification icons in the system tray, the second I release the mouse button and move the mouse to select, the window disappears.
ex 2: If I have a window open and select an app from the Start Menu, that app goes to the background. When I come into the general location of where it sits below the current app, it will show, but I can't select it. I have to use either Alt+Tab or Winkey+Tab to get to the window. Selecting it in the Taskbar doesn't work; it disappears there, as well.

There are all sorts of examples I could list, but hopefully these two will mean something to someone.

Any and all input will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jake

    Jake,
    Give us a chance.

Please read, and read carefully, the following and then carry out the following:
    Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
    (left-hand column)

To gather info, use SIW or Speccy or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
    “system manufacturer” block, for example,
    Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
    MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

Hello Jake, thanks for being patient. What result did the sfc /scannow give you? It should say No Integrity violations found.
Are you using any "optimizing" programs or have some 3rd party file manager or themes pack installed? Which AV do you have, some just don't play well with Win 7, such as McAfee.

    Britton30 -
I just completed the SFC scan. It was 11.9M (which I thought was large for a log file). I didn't see any message saying anything about integrity violations (although with untrained eyes, I could have missed it). At the end it said that all files and registry items in the transaction have been repaired. I'm not sure that means anything, but there is no difference.

    Practically, what that means is:
    1. Restart your computer.
    2. Run it again.
