    General Questions


    i have a couple of general questions concerning my oem copy of windows 7 ultimate 64bit.

    i bought an oem copy last year on newegg for a build i had done. well im fixen to build another system here soon and was wondering. if i can used the same copy on a new build or will it result in problems and issues? will my key allow me to do this

    why im asking is ive been told i can and ive also been told i cant

    No. Your OEM key is irrevocably tied to your motherboard and cannot be separated. Ever. If your first motherboard dies then you can try Microsoft and have them give you a new key for your second build, but otherwise no. One system, one key.

    You can use your install Disc, but you would have to purchase a New, different, valid Key Code.

    thanks for the info ill just buy a new copy then. trying to decide if i want to go with pro or with ultimate again.

    You may as well go with Ultimate, but with this new system, do you require another Windows OS?

    yeah because i still use the system im on and it will be a backup system. used for downloading and putting my pictures an such.

    You don't need Windows for a basic browsing/daily work system.

    im aware of this yes there are tons of free versions of linux out there. ive used ubuntu before i liked it

    thanks for the anser i think ill just grab another oem copy.
