    Hmmm Z

In the D-link the driver is a Microsoft one, and the standard 1200bps modem is Microsoft, and the ethernet controller has no known provider! Just a big yellow ?

Yeah I have got that driver site downloaded - I just have to use my own email to register as my mate has still not got back to me with his.

Annoying really as it's saying it needs updating.

    No Z

No it was the SlimDrivers site that I meant - sorry mate for any confusion.

Am running it on both XP's right now and there are at least 18 updates on each machine including ethernet controllers and the nice thing is they are from the manufacturers - like Lenovo & Intel for instance.

    Nice little app this!

    No go

Well the updates went in perfectly and the machine (IBM) is flying as is the Dell. But now I have done all this I might as well admit defeat.

I have tried everything I can think of including setting the connection to the ISP site but the new drive install will not hook up to the net via the mobo or the card adapter so I reckon we are left with the old drive.

Bit of a downer really I did try copying the drivers from the old drive downloads from Slim onto a USB and then copy them to the new drive but no go.

Now I don't know but is there a chance that I could update the IBM XP from the Dell using the switch I have hooked the router into?

John, you will need to install from the flash drive, not just copy. Plug the flash drive in, then in Device Manager update drivers and point it to the USB drive.

@ Zomby88...Yup SlimDrivers wants your addy when you use it.

    Ok B

Will do that mate - have just tried adding the old drive to the mobo to get some programs across too.

I have found that in Add / remove there are no programs listed on that new install I was given. There are some in all programs but very basic stuff so don't know whats going on there.

I am tempted to put the disk in my Dell to see what exactly is on there.

Anyway will try the flash first.

There won`t be any programs on it if you just installed XP.

    No good B&Z

Look I think I've wasted enough of your time as it just isn't going to go - I think the new XP version is not up to it.

I did try updating the drivers from the flash but it did a quick spyglass twiddle then said it couldn't find them so for what it's worth the machine is not going to have a bar of whatever I try to do to it.

I'll put the old drive back in and try once more to copy the drivers - perhaps I didn't get the right ones I'll get the lot onto the flash this time and see what happens.

Oh and Z the programs I didn't know that I thought it at least came with some basic stuff.

Cripes time for a cup of caffeine I think then on with it.

Hey but I just want to say you both have been champs today I hope I haven't wasted too much of your time or tested the patience too much.
