Kind of unique HP OEM problem
Hi guys!
First off, I kind of feel like a leech, just barging in here and asking questions, but I'm really stumped about what to do here.
The story is this: Back in the pre-7 days, I bought an HP-laptop with a 64bit Vista OS. It qualified for the free upgrade to Windows 7, which I of course also had in 64bit. All was peaches and cream for quite some time, until the laptop broke down. Luckily I had bought extra insurance for it, and I had it repaired. Problem is, it was restored to factory defaults. Almost.
I got the computer back with a 32bit OS, and my upgrade discs only contain the 64bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, and thus I can't upgrade. I am really stumped here, because the official warranty is no longer in effect, so I can't get tech support.
What do I do here? The copy of Windows 7 is legally mine, should I pirate Windows Vista with the sole intention of upgrading to my legit copy of Windows 7? Or do you think it's possible to get either a 64bit Vista or 32bit upgrade from HP?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I just realised this should probably be in the Installation subforum. Didn't see it when I looked through the list first time. If a moderator could be so kind as to move it?
