I've had personal experience of using PuppyLinux to remove those "stubborn stains". Even from within the Sytem32 folder which, I thought, may have given me trouble.

I still think you should give either unlocker or Malwarebytes : Remove any locked file with FileASSASSIN made by the same people that give us Malwarebytes Anti-malware..

My Linux expert friend, said that NTFS support has only been added in the last 2-3 years.
I don't know anything about Knoppix Live GNU/Linux.
Maybe the CD version doesn't have NTFS support in its default configuration.
I've never had the Ubuntu Live CD (9.04 or later) baulk at deleting Windows folders/files.
Another strange mystery.
The Ubuntu 11.04 CD (64it) doesn't even SEE the folders I want to delete. I must be missing something else here. Thanks for the input.
