Running File Explorer from Windows XP on Windows 7

    Hi All,

Is it possible to run XP's File Explorer (i.e. the XP "My Documents" screen) on Wind7 ?

Please can you advise how I can install XP's File Explorer on Wind7 , or how I can configure Wind7 to enable and show the XP "My Documents" screen? (For example what DLL files to copy or what registry entries to create?)

    Thanks your your time,
    Best regards,
    James

Welcome to the Seven Forums, James2000.

If you really want the Windows Explorer from Windows XP, you can do the following:
    1. Install and run Windows XP Mode.
    2. Once in Windows XP Mode, open up My Computer via the start menu.
    3. Under the "Other" section, go into "C on YOUR COMPUTER NAME".
    4. You are now browsing your Windows 7 filesystem from the Windows XP file explorer.

If all you want is to view the "My Documents" folder, however, just go through these steps:
    1. Hold the Windows logo key and press R to open up the "Run" window.
    2. Type %userprofile%\Documents and press enter.
    3. Windows Explorer will pop up, showing your "My Documents" folder.

    Hope this helps.
