I am unable to access the computer management console by right clicking the "My Computer" icon and then clicking the "manage" option.
As it can be seen from the image I get a message box and I am not even able to fix the problem by following the directions given in the message box.
Please somebody help me out!
See if the compmgmt.msc file exists in C:\Windows\system32, and check in C:\Windows\system32\en-US as well (the first one is a link to the second one). If they are there, right-click, open with Microsoft Management Console, and tick "Always use...". Maybe that will re-establish the file association. Or try Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type... and go down to .msc and set it to Microsoft Management Console and click on "change program" button (do it even if it already is set correctly) then select MMC again and OK.
If this doesn't work you may need a systemfiles check ( see: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker ) to fix corrupted or missing files.
Thanks debugged...! But the solution you just gave have no effect on my problem i.e.my problem still persists. This problem had been there ever since I purchased my laptop and I have not yet formatted it (or re-installed Windows 7). Let me also admit that I don't want to perform "Repair Install".

You might also want to consider an anti-virus scan in Safe Mode.
Malwarebytes is a good choice.

Gregocule - just to get an idea where you are: when you double-click on the system32\compmgmt.msc file do you get the same error, or does it open ok? Also try double-clicking on CompMgmtLauncher.exe, which is next to compmgmt.msc - does that open Computer Management? If compmgmt.msc works, then this, from above thread, would be easiest: fanaudi's workaround. If it doesn't work then try Brink's tutorial.
Also, you don't have to do a Repair install to do a sfc/scannow check.
Thanks a lot Debugged! Your first link has eventually solved my problem. I didn't do it manually though; I just downloaded the registry file and integrated to the registry...hope that won't harm my system, although I checked its contents to see for any kind potentially harmful items but you see I'm not an expert
