"Read Only" on a folder. Please help!

I don't know what happened. One day, I tried to save a file inside folder x, and it wouldn't let me save anything.
I right click on the x folder to check on the properties, and it has the "read only" box checked. So I guess that is why I couldn't save any file inside.
I tried to uncheck it, but it says "You need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes", "Click continue to complete this operation".
I AM using the administrator account, so I clicked on "Continue". It seems that it is setting the new settings. When all is done, I right clicked on the folder to check on the properties again. It is back to "Read only" once again.
I've tried several times. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure under the Security tab with "Administrators(abc-pc\Administrators)" selected and in the "Permissions for Administrators" all the necessary check boxes are checked.

You may try taking ownership of the file, then changing it.
