    lost partition

I recently remounted my hard drive due to accomodating a new videocard. (card was longer and moved into the drive bay area). When i started up again, the drive lost my original boot partition. The drive reads 931GB (1TB hd) with only 49GB free (the same amount i had free before the partition was lost). Signifiying that the partition swollowed up the original boot partition. What should I do?

Hi snoboardp, Welcome to the forums you could try using Partition magic to see if you can recover the lost partition Free Download Magic Partition Manager Software - Partition Wizard Online

or try this MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record :)

In the past, I have also used "testdisk" to recover partition tables. It has a somewhat complex interface (meaning it's not point and click ), but it works well. Note that this needs a Linux live CD, like Ubuntu.

Use the bootable CD version of Partition Wizard linked by pebbly above. From the Wizards tab select Recover Partition to see if it can find and restore the partition. If so make sure is marked Active then click on HD to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, Apply, restart.

If boot partition cannot be recovered, mark Win7 partition Active, highlight HD, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, Apply. If Win7 doesn't start, boot the Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots to write the System boot files to Win7 partition.
