I'm not entirely sure if you are going to see an $80 price difference between 1066 and 1333 on the FSB. And you might end up overclocking that 1066 anyway and bringing it up some. On a less than $90 CPU, it's a little easier to risk it and see what happens.
well so far I have an ASUS board (forget the name) that is nvidia 780i chipset...with a corsair 750 watt power supply...the only thing left to get is the GFX card/memory/processor (the big three I suppose)

My NVidia Chipset (Asus MoBo) with AMD Dually 5000+ with my NVidia 9500GT 1gb does me proud.

I know it's not the best but it does what I want, when I want and plays all the hardware intensive games I need like NFS ProStreet, TM United, and X-Men Origins & Tomb Raider Legends with no worries so I'm a happy chappy!

Intel/ATI here.

Q9550 Core 2 Quad
MSI 4870 1GB

No complaints. My crappy motherboard and memory is preventing me from overclocking the CPU and releasing the beast within... but 2.83GHz quad core 12MB L2 cache isn't too shabby for stock

Don't fret too much over it. I have the same CPU and am very happy with it. Although mine "is" overclocked a bit (to 3.2)....I don't see much of a difference in 95% of the stuff that I do on a daily basis. So you probably aren't missing out on too much. And with a stock setup, you don't have to invest in after market coolers and additiional case fans or water cooling.....yadda, yadda, yadda.

I chose Intel because I wanted the Q6600 processor... its a real workhorse of a chip. Takes to OCing well, and practically bulletproof. Its a tank.

I had no real idea of what to look for in a video card, so I picked the geForce 9800 GTX because it was on sale and it had good reviews on NewEgg.

I am looking at the GTX 260 right now ($159.99...20 dollar mail in rebate)...and it looks great...but I am in the same boat as you; I don't really know which one to pick: AMD/ATI or nVidia

I chose the graphics card after looking through a number of writeups and found it appeared to be the best value for money.

Still waiting for the next generation

Intels Lynnfield (32nm) & DirectX11 graphics card.

There is no point in buying a GTX260 for me now as the GTX275 performs a lot better then the 260 :/ As soon as the GTX275 drops to ~160€ i will buy one

This should be ok till DirectX 11 is supported by games and graphic cards.
