Same problem from me too. I hate intel pc(s)

I have three pc's with AMD cpu which are running good from several years. I never faced major problems then virus attacks My own pc is AMD/nvidia so i have voted for...

I have another AMD pc with ati gpu chip but that isn't good. Especially games which runs worst then my pc ( nvidia ).

    Best Regards

I am looking at the GTX 260 right now ($159.99...20 dollar mail in rebate)...and it looks great...but I am in the same boat as you; I don't really know which one to pick: AMD/ATI or nVidia
I wish I could offer you some sage advice, but I'm still as lost as before. My video has worked flawlessly so far... so I haven't had to learn much about it.

I guess the only thing I would say is: Talk to the gamers. They live for video cards.

    Intel / Nvidia

I do a lot of movie encoding and AMD simply has not competed with intel since the Core 2 launch.

I have an E8400 on a P45 MB with a 9600GT Nvidia. I got the E8400 cause it was cheap at the time (it is now $80.00 dearer). I got the 9600GT cause I couldn't afford a 4870.

I've always bough AMD CPUs since my second PC which had a Celeron 600. They are cheaper and do everything I want, so I'm not looking to change any time soon. I have mostly always used Nvidia too - I just prefer their software and drivers; top notch stuff IMHO. :)

I actually find this as a surprise because I work heavily with video and find that the phenom II x4 is unmatched at least for what I have done.

I seem to get a really impressive frame rate encoding video with the newer multi-core AMD chips.

But most of the difference probably comes from more than just the processor you have installed. Your board can really make a difference in performance when working on something so intensive on the system.

Something else I wanted to note from experience with Intel systems.

I had a celeron 2.7Ghz back on socket 478a and I always had heat issues with that particular processor. I ran that CPU on an Intel motherboard with 2Gb of Kingston memory copper cooled. I ended up buying a really extreme cooler for the processor just to keep the heat within a reasonable range under normal usage.

I still to this day do not understand why I had all the heat issues with that system because it should have ran ice cold with all of the cooling I had in the machine. But it didn't it ran really hot which was weird and frustrating the entire time I had the system.
