The Add-ons make it safer
I use FF with NoScript and Adblock and I am safer than using IE.

Anyway IE is just a bloated softare. You see what problems you can have uninstalling this crap.

Could be a real nuisance.
Well, it all depends on if the EC is statisfied, the EC wanted Microsoft to present people with a ballot screen, where they could choose between different browsers. Now obviously Microsoft is dead set against that ballot screen, which is understandable from both a business standpoint, and a technical (support) standpoint.

Whether or not Microsoft will get away with just removing IE8 from Win7 install media in the EU remains to be seen. This could easily lead to a delay in Europe for Win7.

Refresh my memory please... is Windows Media Player included in the Windows E distribution? Thanks!

Yes E version has IE removed but contains WMP, the N version will have both IE and WMP removed.

However if you need to run any application that needs ActiveX then Firefox won't work -- for example you won't be able to use Web Remote Desktop connection (RDP using a browdser) etc.

This leads me to believe that there may be more underlying issues with the removal of IE8 for the 'E' release of Windows 7 than is actually being reported...

I've checked Windows Update & that works ok, but as this is my main machine I can only test certain environments momentarily.
Note   Note
Without an actual 'E' release certain functionality cannot yet be tested

Yes there are ways to download an explorer in an 'E' edition but it makes me wonder what CORE system components rely on IE files

Anyone care to add any feedback
There's no need to wonder. MS have already looked in to it and given info from their testing several days ago. And they've found it doesn't tend to cause problems with most applications. Windows 7 E Best Practices for ISVs - Windows 7 for Developers - The Windows Blog

(And from what I can tell reading between the lines of the blog posting, in many cases when it does cause problems, it's because of brain dead applications/developers like "The application has hard coded dependencies to launch Internet Explorer when starting a browser to access the net". And convincing these developers to stop doing such brain dead things is surely a good thing, similar to the way Windows Vista UAC encouraged less dumb coding.)
