    Partitions......


    Im going to re-partition my HDD... hw many partitions can i get in windows 7... ?? if the answer is "upto four partitions, (means C, D, E, and F)" ?? is there any way to increase the number of partitions in win7 ??? pls guide me...

    NB: and also pls tell wat as primary and extended partitions ??

    Yes the answer is 4 and no there isnt a simple way of increasing it. what do you need to do?

    For MBR disks (which is what most still are), you are limited to 4 "primary" partitions (due to the way they are stored)

    Extended partitions allow more by using one of the primary partition slots to create a chain of partitions.

    However, you will typically only need at most two partitions on a single-boot machine (system and data), as modern file systems have virtually no size limit. (Unlike originally, when the size limit of FAT meant that hard disks had to be partitioned to be able to use all the space on it)

    You can have upto 4 primary partitions on a single HDD or 3 primary partition and 1 extended partition instead. The extended partition acts as a container for 1 or more logical drives, the number of which is limited by the number of drive letters still available.
