clock keeps resetting

Hi folks.

My clock keeps resetting itself an hour slow.
It doesn't do it every time I log off but more often than not.
I keep putting it right via "change date and time settings..." but when I log on the next day it will have lost an hour.
As I say, it doesn't seem to do this every time I log on.
I did a clean install just a couple of months ago but I can't say for certain that's when it started or if it began later.
Needless to say, it's infuriating. Anyone got any ideas?

Yes it is set to DST, so it'll be right in October.
I could certainly get a new cmos battery. I didn't think it would be that as it (and the mobo) is only 14 months old. The PSU is 3 months old.

That's wired because a pc I used to use is about 5 years old and has NEVER needed the CMOS battery replaced.

Like anything man made things fail.

Anyway I would check the BIOS first to make sure the correct time in set, than check Windows to see that you have the right region set.

After that, If you're still haivng problems, and you notice your BIOS settings aren't sticking, then replace the CMOS battery.

My two cents.

If the clock has lost time at boot, probably cmos battery
If loses time as you use, it is probably something else
The clock resets at boot, if CMOS is charged.

Yes. It is always an hour and always at boot. After resetting it, it remains correct for the rest of that session.
Sometimes it remains correct the next boot, sometimes it loses an hour.
Sometimes I leave it running for 24 hours and it will remain correct.
Really bloody annoying. I'll pick up a new battery tomorrow and try it.
Thanks all I'll let you know the outcome. John

Hang on. I never realised there was a time setting in the BIOS.
Whereabouts is it?. I'll have a look at that.

As Windowsgeek2000 says. I've had the same battery in my other rig for about 6 years and no problem.

By the way, welcome to the forums windowsgeek, thanks for the help
