Windows 7 Cannot Repair startup CorruptFile

Have an HP Pavillion machine that was working fine, upon start up this last time got the error thate Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

Problem Signature 03: Unkown
Problem Signature 04: 21200868

OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

We do not want to have to reinstall this to the factory settings, it has a lot of programs on it and would be cumbersome to install them all again, not to mention some of the program install disks are gone... Any help on what to do to get past this?

Hi jhubbard530,

So you've already done a Startup Repair? If not, it should help.
Startup Repair

You should also try running the SFC/SCANNOW command. It will fix any corrupted or deleted system files.

A repair install might also work. It will fix your currently installed operating system but keep all of your files, data, settings etc.

You could try scanning your system with Malwarebytes. Chances are it won't do much, but if you're getting desperate, it's worth a shot.

(Second) last resort would have to be a system restore. If you have a restore point from before the problem started, you can revert to that point in time.

Now the last resort would be a clean install. That will wipe everything and reinstall Windows 7 so you would have to back everything up if possible.
