Windows 7: Maximised windows not all the way to top of screen (annoying)

05 Sep 2011   #21

Win 10 x64 Pro x64 / Ubuntu 15.10 x64

I've noticed virtually every person reporting this problem is running a Dell, so including 'Dell' as a keyword in my searches I managed to find a potential solution.

Try these steps and see if it helps (source1, source2):
  1. Open the 'Services' list (Start > type 'services')
  2. Find the ‘SoftThinks Agent Service’, change the startup type to ‘Disabled’
  3. Restart your computer

Step 1 : Minimize your open windows.
Step 2 : Right click on the task back and verify that the "Lock the taskbar" option isn't checked. If it is, uncheck it.
Step 3 : Move the taskback to the top of the screen.
Step 4 : Maximize a window, any window. Now, the window will take all the space it has. It will not leave a space on top near the taskbar's new position, nor will it create a space at the bottom of the screen.
Step 5 : Keep the window maximized and move the traskbar back at the bottom the way you like it. You can lock it back into this position with the "Lock the taskbar" option as described in step 1.

Result : All windows will now take all the screen and leave no annoying space.

Let me know if it worked for you guys.

THANKYOU! this worked

Annoying screen resolution reminder
Hi, Windows 7 keeps giving me a pop up reminder that my screen resolution is not optimum and that the optimum resolution is 1280 x 1024. The annoying thing is that this actually IS the native resoltion of the monitor I'm using, and it IS the screen res I've set (actually it was set autmatically)...
