    Bios update?

    Hello everyone.
In spite of having used Windows Upgrade Advisor before trying to load W7 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 (32 bit running Vista), and been told that all was well, I cannot load W7 because of an error message that the BIOS needs an update. I have been to Dell's site, looked up my model and tried to down load the BIOS update. All I seem to download is the Dell Download software. I am completely lost as to what to do. Can anyone help please?

    Try downloading this.
    Drivers & Downloads
    1. Click Download.
    2. Select the second option to download it via Browser.
    3. Make sure u've run the program after downloading and have successfully update/flash the BIOS using the program.

Just to make sure everything is gonna be OK,...
I've REUPLOADED a mirror for the BIOS updater for Dell Inspiron 1720 (Version: A09)
    Download Link for the Mirror: 1720_A09.EXE | localhostr.com - share … anything

Tell if you have problems downloading (or other related probs)

Clear your cache before trying the download again. This will give you the option to download using the browser instead of the Download Manager which doesn't work half the time.

You should post the exact message you get and tell us when you get it. There may be another issue.

What BIOS version are you running currently? A09? Seeing as there is only one BIOS download available I don't think it will do you any good to just rewrite the same bios from download given the potential risks of flashing a BIOS. You would be better off just restoring BIOS defaults or performing a BIOS reset in that case.

As TVeblen said, BIOS version A09 is the only version available on the Dell support site. Sometimes an error message saying the BIOS needs to be updated happens if someone is trying to install a 64 bit version of Windows 7 on a 32 bit computer. I apologize in advance for asking this. Are you sure you're trying to install the 32 bit version of Windows 7 and not the 64 bit version?

Thanks everyone for your help. I eventually found the BIOS download, and got W7 installed. I do not understand why this was not flagged when I ran the Upgrade Advisor in the first place. I had already started the installation of W7 and had to stop to get the new BIOS.

    Many thanks again.
