Windows 7: Restart without closing programs?

27 Jul 2011   #11

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Microsoft may have gotten it working for mainstream applications (IE, Office, other common office apps, etc.) however resource intensive applications for CAD, content development, etc. still cause a lot of problems in my recent experience.

This isn't limited to software either. Some motherboards just don't like sleep and/or hibernate. Certain bios options can affect it's function and some manufacturers ACPI drivers are bunk (as are the ones from Windows Update half the time.)

It may work, it may not. I wouldn't trust it with important or mission critical data.

This experience is based on how many Win7 installs or deployments?

The reason I ask is because this was more my experience with XP or Vista. I don't have these kinds of hibernate problems with hundreds of Win7 installs, or see it much amongst the thousands of problems we see here.

Personally 5 installs. Work and at home.

Through clients, 100+

Like you I also sleep and/or hibernate my computers at home. I just dont trust really important stuff to it. ie. regular saves/backups etc.
